WEMBLEY, England (AP) - Roy Hodgson will be guarding his tongue when traveling on the Tube from now on, after learning that idle chat with fellow commuters may not be such a good idea when you're England's national team coach.

Hodgson had to apologize to Rio Ferdinand on Thursday after telling fellow passengers on the Underground that the veteran Manchester United defender was not selected for upcoming World Cup qualifiers - comments that were then published by a newspaper before his official announcement.

Ferdinand already was upset about being left off England's European Championship roster, and Hodgson said he should have been more careful in keeping his squad selection a secret - but insisted that he hasn't ruled out choosing the defender in the future.
